Manila, Philippines – Out of the 14,364 examinees of the Nursing Licensure Examination last May, two FEU High School alumni topped the exams with 90.40% and 90.20%.

Topnotchers Pamella Cordero and Sharmaine Enriquez shared how their high school opportunities drove their aspirations to work in the medical field.

Both Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand graduates in 2018, Pamella and Sharmaine highlighted how they enjoyed the meaningful learning experiences at FEU High School.

For Pamella, it was during her stay that she realized her dream. “After I graduated from junior high school, I didn’t know what course to take in college. Because of the professors I met at FEU High School and the program that FEU High School offered, I was able to finally figure out what I wanted to be — a nurse!” she said.

Sharmaine discovered immense satisfaction in the enriching healthcare-related experiences, especially while studying General Biology’s Human Anatomy and Physiology at FEU High School. “It made me love the medical field even more, and those experiences overall helped me realize the field that I wanted to flourish in, so I’m grateful for that,” she expressed.

When the results came out, Pamella and Sharmaine were in shock because they passed the licensure exam and landed as topnotchers. The realization that what they once thought impossible had now become their remarkable accomplishment left them both in a state of surreal disbelief.

They offered some advice to Tamaraws aspiring to pursue a career in the medical field: acing the exam is just the beginning of a new journey. There are endless demands and high expectations that will test one’s commitment. Patient care goes beyond the physical or medical aspects; it also encompasses managing stress and emotions.

Pamella and Sharmaine advise aspiring individuals in the medical field, particularly those aspiring to become nurses, that acing exams alone is not sufficient. Knowing how to best serve patients is more than just a responsibility – it is dedication. While the medical field poses considerable challenges and pursuing that aspiration can be exhausting, Both achieved success through self-trust and perseverance. They continued to give their best at every available opportunity.
