In order to provide a glimpse of the environment that awaits Baby Tamaraws after their graduation, Far Eastern University Manila administered its ‘FEU College Day’ for FEU High School Grade 12 students last January 27 via Zoom
The event was divided into two sessions: 8 to 11 in the morning for Batch B and 1 to 4 in the afternoon for Batch A. Ms. Angel Gianan and Ms. Jam De Jesus, FEU alumni and the event moderators, started by welcoming first the event’s attendees and participants, and it was then followed by an opening prayer led by Mr. Jansen Chua, Admissions Officer of FEU Admissions and Financial Assistance.
To officially begin the discussions, Dr. Michelle Acomular, the Senior Director of FEU Admissions and Financial Assistance, presented the rationale and program design, highlighting the university as one of the ‘Top 5 Universities in the Philippines,’ producing graduates that are globally competitive and committed to building this nation.
A short history about the university’s founder, Dr. Nicanor Reyes Sr. and how it started as an accounting school in 1928 was also discussed by Mr. Chua and Ms. Karen Laine Selda, Admission Officers of FEU Admissions and Financial Assistance, with the help of a video presentation.
Ms. Selda also introduced FEU’s official learning management platform, Canvas, and the ways it helps the students’ education. Furthermore, the different modes of learning: Mixed Online Learning (MOL), Asynchronous Online Learning (AOL), and Total Analogue Learning (TAL) were also tackled.
On the other hand, Mr. Chua discussed the programs offered by six institutes, scholarship grants for FEU Manila and Makati, the new extension campus that was launched this academic year, which is the FEU Cavite, and FEU Student Placement for Admission to College Education (FEU SPACE) online registration procedure replacing the FEUCAT.
Before the series of talks by the institute representatives started and as an intermission for each discussion, trivia games were done for students that came with a corresponding prize for every correct answer, which they can claim by the time they visited the campus after the pandemic ends.
After that, the guest speakers from each institute: Mr. Francis Esteban from Institute of Arts and Sciences (IAS); Department Chair of Institute of Nursing (IN), Ms. Emy Delgado Ph. D; Assistant Program Head of the Institute of Account and Business and Finance (IABF) Mr. Mark Lester Balasa; Associate Chair of the Institute of Architecture and Fine Arts (IARFA), Architect Annelyn Lacson; Institute of Education (IE) led by Mr. Joseph Jintalan from the Faculty of the Architecture Department; Department Chair of the Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (ITHM) and from the Faculty of the Tourism Management Department, Mr. Pocholo Martillo thoroughly discussed every detail about the academic programs that each department offer, a short background, curriculum, and internship for their respective institutes; career opportunities for students after graduation, utilized facilities, and the new way of learning for online class this year.
The event ended through a virtual tour inside the university showcasing the different buildings and facilities per institute. Amidst the pandemic, FEU Manila still successfully conducted the yearly College Day for graduating students of FEU HS. All Grade 12 participants are expected to receive a certificate for joining the event.
