FEU High School’s Learning Experience (FEULE) is strengthened by the artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm of ALEKS by McGraw-Hill. ALEKS or Assessment and LEarning Knowledge Spaces is a web-based assessment and learning system that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to customize student learning. It uses adaptive questioning to track what a student knows or does not know in a subject, then, presents to the student only the set of topics s/he is ready to learn at a given time. This is the first AI-based educational technology that uses science and data algorithm to assess a learner’s knowledge state and create adaptive learning experience.
How does ALEKS work? Consider it as a personal virtual tutor that uses AI algorithm to help a student to master learning areas where help is needed. As soon as a student gains access to the learning environment through TamSpace, s/he is given an initial knowledge check so ALEKS can assess student’s knowledge state. Using its AI algorithm, ALEKS will list the topics the student knows and does not know, then, personalizes the learning environment by selecting the right learning materials and topics that the student is ready to learn. ALEKS helps students improve their learning by personalizing the contents and activities and enabling knowledge retention through periodic knowledge checks. The student’s learning path is optimized by cycles of learning assessments so students can easily remember the knowledge and concepts they learned. This cycle continues until the time s/he is ready to continue for the next course.
FEU HS believes that by integrating AI-based learning products such as ALEKS into its curriculum, it will produce students who are better prepared for college, students who developed the confidence, mastery, and student agency by being in control of their personalized learning experience.
This school year, students taking General Mathematics and the Fundamentals of Accountancy, Business and Management (FABM) 1 and 2 will experience this in TamSpace.
