FEU High School (FEU HS), a student-centered educational institution for Junior and Senior High School in the Philippines, has partnered with Asian Hospital and Medical Center (AHMC) to offer pilot work immersion programs to Grade 12 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) students.
The work immersion program provides students with practical exposure through an “Introduction to Nursing and Hospital Experience.” This initiative allows them to gain invaluable insights and skills from medical professionals at AHMC, a Joint Commission International (JCI)-accredited hospital in the country. The program aims to equip students with essential skills and knowledge, ignite their aspirations, and enhance their readiness for higher education and professional careers.
The AHMC Nursing Department emphasized their commitment to introducing firsthand nursing experiences to students.
“Our goal is to promote nursing as a rewarding career choice and fulfill our corporate responsibility to develop future healthcare professionals who will care for Filipinos in need. FEU HS’s robust program goes beyond education by providing meaningful opportunities. Their commitment to placing students in reputable companies ensures job readiness and supports long-term career development” said Dr. Fides Adiviso, department head for Nursing Fundamentals
During the program, students toured inpatient units, learned vital signs assessment, experienced simulation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and medication administration. They also toured outpatient units, gained knowledge of JCI’s International Patient Safety Goals, and improved their communication skills with patients and peers. The manipulation of actual hospital materials and equipment, including CPR dummies, incorporated infection control practices into all the skills.
FEU HS demonstrates its dedication to offering diverse opportunities for its students by collaborating with various local and international institutions at the forefront of their industries. Previously, FEU HS introduced its work immersion program with its international partner, HungKuang University in Taichung, Taiwan last year.
Dr. Stephen Jay D. Co, director for Academic Affairs at FEU HS, shared the transformative impact of work immersion on students.
“AHMC’s commitment to providing immersive healthcare experiences not only enriches our curriculum but also ignites passion and purpose in our students as they prepare for their future careers. AHMC’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals aligns seamlessly with our mission of holistic education. Together, we are shaping compassionate and competent leaders ready to make a difference in the world,” said Co.
The first batch of the work immersion program, comprising 20 STEM students, completed their session. AHMC will offer the program to four more batches of STEM students in the future.
This collaboration marks a first for both institutions, setting a new benchmark for hands-on learning and real-world experience in the healthcare industry.
