FEU High School Music Society’s official team, KABSOL (Kahit Anong Bandname Samin Okay Lang), serenaded the judges to victory as they bagged the championship title in Sayawit: Battle of the Bands ’23.
Kristine Zenarosa, the lead guitarist of KABSOL, recalled their preparation for the competition, “originally, we planned on performing our (original) songs for the competition, but the organizers later revealed the assigned artists per band.” Mark Arda, the vocalist of KABSOL, explained that they went through all of Rivermaya’s songs and picked three to bring out a unifying message that the audience could relate to.
Through Awit ng Kabataan, Elesi, and Liwanag sa Dilim, we were able to successfully resonate the message of hope and perseverance to the audience.
Arda on the inspiration behind their repertoire
“The band’s rendition showed how influential Rivermaya has been. It joys me to know that Original Pilipino Music (OPM) will continue to flourish through these young and talented students,” Charles Delgado, FEU HS Music Society adviser, added.
On the other side of the competition, Gweneth Pidlaoan, captain of ADC, explained the inspiration behind their routine, “not everyone can dance, so we wanted our routine to be relatable and entertaining.”
Through our performance, we were able to show the audience our passion (for dancing).
Pidlaoan on the recent achievement of ADC
The achievement is only the start as both organizations are committed to improve their talent and skills for future competitions.
Far Eastern University celebrated its 95th Foundation Week with the theme “FEUture Onward” last February 6-10, 2023. Among the lined-up festivities is Sayawit 2023 Pagbubuklod sa Saliw ng Musikang Pilipino: Unleashing Potentials through Original Pinoy Music, an annual intraschool competition organized by the FEU Central Student Organization (FEU CSO) to showcase Tamaraw’s talent in dancing and music.
